Listropolis' Take:

This one is really trending on the web right now. I still haven't figured out why, but it's an interesting post, and worth a read. (it's a quick read)

From Source: Sportige

Two days before the 2009-2010 NBA season begins, we pay tribute to the guys who still make it out of bed, despite the aching bones and other age induced pains and troubles. Oh right, I forgot they get millions for playing Basketball, that’s always a good reason. But being durable is worthy of being admired, especially after so much time in the league – so here they are, the 10 oldest players in the NBA.

Listropolis' Take:

I included this because it's just a really interesting list. I was actually surprised by many of the players on the list. Even if you're not a basketball fan, there's a good chance you'll find this list worthwhile. Check it out.

8 Mind-Boggling Optical Illusions

Posted on 19 October 2009 by admin

67

From Source: Yahoo Health

If you’ve ever felt like you go a little cross-eyed after taking a peek at an optical illusion, then you know they can be a pretty intense phenomenon. What your eyes perceive when looking at one of these images is actually a visual illusion; you see the image as something different than what it is because the different cells and receptors in your eyes distinguish images and colors at dissimilar speeds. The eye can only receive a limited amount of visual stimuli, but as your brain constantly processes the visual information, it gives you the illusion of continuous sight. Whether it’s an optical, physiological or cognitive illusion, the design plays a trick on your eyes (and mind). Check out some of the interesting illusions below—but beware, you may not be able to absorb them all in one sitting.

Listropolis' Take:

Interesting enough to share on here, but nothing you probably haven't seen before.

10 Simple Ways to Live a Less Stressful Life

Posted on 06 October 2008 by admin

From zenhabits:

Stress is a major problem for many people — a hectic, stressful job, a chaotic home life, bills to worry about, and bad habits such as unhealthy eating, drinking and smoking can lead to a mountain of stress.

I won’t guarantee that all of these will work for you. They worked for me, but each person is different. Pick and choose the ones that will work best for you, and give them a try. One at a time.

6 Questions to Ask Yourself to Get the Most Out of Life

Posted on 02 September 2008 by admin

Zen Habits | Simple Productivity

From ZenHabits:

I love reading lists of things to do before you die, but after reading several of these lists, I’ve realized that each list is a very personal thing. It can only apply to the writer of the list, and not to all human beings in general. No such list can do that.

And think about this: if you’re trying to follow a list of things to do before you die … trying to check things off the list, just to say you’ve done it … what’s the point, really? To be able to tell people you’ve done it? To follow the life prescription of some writer?

I won’t try to tell you what to do before you die … but I will suggest some questions to figure out how to live … right now. Each and every day.

Because you never know how much time you have left, and trying to cram a list of things into that unknown time can be futile. Instead, live every day to the fullest. Get the most out of life.

5 Real-World Solutions to Lose Weight

Posted on 06 August 2008 by admin

You want to drop big weight? Forget about it. No, really - that's the crucial tip. Put the end goal out of the picture and narrow your focus to the day at hand. Bob Harper, a trainer on the NBC TV show The Biggest Loser, says, "Ask yourself, did I get my workout in today? Did I make the right food choices? Then go through it again tomorrow, always with an eye on improving."

Here are Harper's top five real-world solutions. Becoming fat is a piece of cake. Slimming down is not.

#1.
Get over gym-timidation.

The muscleheads at the squat rack aren't judging you. "If they see someone out of shape trying their hardest to change, they'll do what they can to help you," says Harper. So ask for a spot, or even some guidance. Just because those guys are ripped doesn't mean they don't struggle with diets and exercise plans.

#2.
Fight through the pain.

Your neglected body won't be able to do what it once could. Start slowly and remember that post-exercise soreness means you're making progress. Use this as motivation to put the past into your present. "You'll see just how far you've let yourself go, but you'll know what you're eventually capable of," Harper says. Continue Reading

Fitness: The Best Tech Tools and Fitness Plans to Get in Shape

From Lifehacker:

If there's one thing geeks and non-geeks alike all share, it's an aversion to exercise. No matter how much you'd like to slim your waistline and lose the belly, it's difficult to find a workout routine that not only works, but one that fits your needs and is easy to stick to. Over the years we've covered several fitness plans along with free and cheap technology to help you get in shape and stick to a training plan, and I've used many of these tools to help run two marathons. Read on for a look at the most simple yet effective plans we've covered—along with the best tech tools to help you get and stay in shape. Photo by luiginter.

This isn't a "How to lose 200 pounds in a year" article, but it could be. Despite the proliferation of diet plans and expensive exercise equipment, the key to fitness is and always will be healthy eating, portion control, and a solid exercise routine. (But, a solid exercise routine need not be hard or expensive.) Here are some of the tips and tools we've covered at Lifehacker over the years, many of which I use regularly.
